                         Joseph Horrigan
                          B.A. J.D.

Joseph primarily practices in the field of criminal law. He represents individuals charged with a wide range of offences and understands that his first duty is always to place the client’s interests first. Joseph understands that any interaction with the criminal justice system will place an incredible amount of stress on an individual’s life. Joseph dedicates his practice to helping his clients navigate the criminal justice system as effectively and efficiently as possible, and always makes himself available to address client’s concerns throughout the process.

 

 

 

Joseph obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Ottawa. During his legal studies, Joseph was a member of the Innocence Project and assisted with the review of complex criminal law cases including first degree murder cases, and arson cases. Joseph also did a placement program with Leo Russomanno, an Ottawa defence attorney. This placement allowed Joseph to see first hand, at an early point in his education, what is required to be a successful advocate for clients charged with criminal offences.

 

 

 

Joseph completed his Articles of Clerkship with Perrin Ahmad LLP. During his articles, he successfully represented clients charged with various criminal and provincial offences. Upon completion of his articles and being called to the Bar, Joseph was hired as an Associate with Perrin Ahmad LLP. As an associate, Joseph regularly appeared in both the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice. Joseph took on his own clients while with the firm and also provided support to senior firm counsel in complex criminal matters. Joseph believes in advancing any reasonable defence that is in his client’s best interest regardless of how it may be perceived by the public.

 

 

 

Joseph is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Peterborough Law Association, and the Criminal Lawyers’ Association. Joseph is also the professor of the advanced criminal law program at Trent University in Peterborough .
